I've seen several examples of headblocks for Stradivari.  Most of these are replaced blocks which happened when the necks were lengthened.  I find inconsistencies in the width of the block.  What width are we to use?

The holes for end blocks in the original Stradivari molds vary a lot, from smaller than modern to much wider, but the modern standard is around 55mm wide for the upper block, and 50mm for the lower one

Well, I was close.   My latest violin (actually the one I took to the workshop) had 52 mm upper block and 48 mm lower.  I am just about ready to start on your favorite, the Baron Knoop and I'll go to the 55/50 dimensions.
